До сих пор он у меня проходил под кодовым названием «папоротник», руки не доходили выяснить название. И вот сейчас среди прошлогоднего сена я обнаружила вот такие спорофиллы. Я подумала: очень похоже на перья. Страуса. О. Это же страусник. Теперь я знаю (а) как это называется, (б) почему.</p><p>Спорофиллы (филл=phyllum=лист) — это специальные листья, на которых у страусника созревают споры (ну как я их осенью-то прощёлкала, а?). В наших краях у всех других папоротников спорофиллов нет, споры созревают на «изнанке» обычного «листа» (вайи). Until now I called this just “the fern”, I had not found time to id it. But now, in a heap of last-year hay, I found these sporophylls. I thought: what a nice thing. It looks like feathers. Ostrich feathers. Aha. It's an ostrich fern. Now I know (a) how it's called, (b) why.</p><p>Sporophylls are special spore-bearing leaves of this fern. I wonder how I managed not to mention them in autumn!? All other ferns in our forests do not have sporophylls, their spores appear on the under side of their common “leaves” (fronds).
